TU Austria flies the flag in Alpbach
At the Technology Talks as part of the European Forum Alpbach, TU Austria addresses “The end of the energy transition” and puts its outstanding student teams in the spotlight.
The three TU Austria universities TU Graz, Montanuniversität Leoben and TU Wien once again flew the flag together at this year's Forum Alpbach. As part of the Technology Talks, TU Austria hosted the working group “2015: The end of the energy transition”. A high-caliber and well-attended discussion forum chaired by MUL Department Head Harald Raupenstrauch addressed this topical issue under the deliberately provocative title. While the word “turnaround” implies a future event, from a technological point of view, society is already in the midst of the “turnaround”: Industries and technologies for energy generation are already close to their maximum efficiency these days. 2015 is therefore a key year: will available technologies and the associated know-how finally be used with all due consistency to produce and live in an energy and climate-friendly way? That would be the end of the energy transition. Or will familiar arguments from business, politics and lobbying push the energy transition further and further into the future? The panel included experts from a wide range of disciplines who took a global and interdisciplinary view of the energy issue, including Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker, Club of Rome, Angela Köppl, WIFO, Johann Rinnhofer, SMS Elotherm GmbH, Volker Zepf, University of Augsburg, Mariam Traore Chazalnoel, International Organization for Migration and Helmut Antrekowitsch, Montanuniversität Leoben.
TU Austria also had a stand in the foyer of the Congress Center during the Technology Talks in Alpbach. The stand was the meeting point for forum participants who wanted to find out more about TU Austria's mission and activities. Included in the conference documents of all forum participants of the Alpbach Business Talks: the TU Austria brochure “Austria's technology students are world class”.
