First Meeting of TU9 and TU Austria in Darmstadt

The leaders of major technical universities from Germany and Austria discussed current higher education topics during the recent general assembly of TU9, the alliance of nine leading technical universities in Germany.

What TU Austria represents in Austria, TU9 represents in Germany – the association of the country’s leading technical universities. At the invitation of TU9 President and TU Darmstadt President Hans Jürgen Prömel, TU Vienna Rector Sabine Seidler, TU Graz Rector and TU Austria President Harald Kainz, Montanuniversität Leoben Rector Wilfried Eichlseder, and TU Austria Secretary General Elke Standeker visited Darmstadt to take part in the TU9 general assembly. Together with TU9 presidents and rectors, the TU Austria delegation discussed topics such as modern teaching formats, MOOCs, and preparatory courses. Structural issues were also on the agenda, such as university access, third-party project management, and joint professorships.

Shared Challenges
“We were very pleased to welcome our colleagues from TU Austria to our general assembly in Darmstadt,” said TU9 President Hans Jürgen Prömel. “It became clear that TU Austria members face similar challenges to those we experience in Germany. It was highly interesting to see how they tackle these issues. Everyone benefited from the exchange, and we will continue our dialogue.”

First Step
TU Austria President Harald Kainz added: “TU9 and TU Austria pursue similar goals and share many common topics. The exchange of experiences and the discussions were enriching for all involved. As TU Austria, we aim to strengthen our ties with international associations of technical universities – the meeting with the TU9 leadership was a first and very valuable step. We look forward to continuing the exchange with TU9 next year in Austria.”
