TU Austria Girls' Prize 2020: Female engineers of the future

On Thursday, October 8, 2020, the TU Austria Award Ceremony 2020 “Female Engineers of the Future” took place in the auditorium of Graz University of Technology. The finalists of the competition as well as their parents, friends and girlfriends were invited to the award ceremony. The entire event took place under strict Covid-19 safety measures, and the event was also broadcast online for spectators who were unable to attend due to the limited number of participants.
The award ceremony was opened by Rector Harald Kainz, Chairman of TU Austria. There was also a welcome address by Vice Rector of Graz University of Technology Claudia von der Linden and a video message from Leonore Gewessler, Federal Minister for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology. Styrian State Councillor Juliane Bogner-Strauß then spoke about her technical career. A keynote speech by Sandra Schön on the topic of “Social Innovation” and the presentation of the TU Austria videos rounded off the program.
At the award ceremony, the many innovative, sustainable and creative submissions were honored and awarded a cash prize. First place went to Katja Mitterbacher with her project “Smart bus stop light”, a novel idea on how to make local public transport even safer and more user-friendly. The special prize went to Hanna Draxl and Lisa Kogler for their project.
