TU Austria Girls' Prize 2019: Female engineers of the future

Today, April 25, 2019, the winners of the TU Austria competition “Female Engineers of the Future” were honored. The award ceremony with Women's Minister Juliane Bogner-Strauß took place in the ballroom of TU Wien.

More women are needed in technology! For this reason, TU Austria (the association of TU Vienna, TU Graz and Montanuniversität Leoben) has launched the “Female Engineers of the Future” competition. The competition was made possible by the generous support of the Berndorf Private Foundation and Lukoil International.

Pupils in grades 9 - 13 were invited to take a look at inspiring female engineers. Whether famous or still unknown, from their own environment or historical female technicians - the aim was more than just a portrait. The questions dealt with were what exactly is perceived as inspiring about the person and what impact the respective achievements have or had. An outlook on their own careers and what lessons can be learned from the women portrayed was also requested.

In her welcoming address, Minister for Women Juliane Bogner-Strauß emphasized how important role models are and called for “Courage for technology! Technology is exciting and still offers the opportunity for pioneering achievements, so every woman can become a role model for the next generation”.

A panel of experts made up of professors from the three technical universities selected the best 10 submissions, with five tenth places being awarded. The ranking was carried out by three TU Austria Vice Rectors.
