TU Austria Summer School Doc+ 2022
The successful cooperation project, the TU Austria Summer School Doc+, took place for the fifth time. At the end of August, 16 dedicated doctoral students from the TU Austria universities met to spend a week learning, exchanging ideas, networking and having fun together at Graz University of Technology. This year, the focus was on project management. The participants completed an interesting and intensive programme in English with the aim of acquiring and developing project management skills.
Focus: project management
As a result of working on various research projects, project management skills are essential for every researcher today. Therefore, the TU Austria Summer School Doc+ was dedicated to the topic of project management in order to strengthen young researchers in this field for their future careers. Together with the trainer, Mag. Lorenz Gareis, the participants acquired in-depth knowledge for the management of (research) projects during the Summer School.
Valuable exchange of information and experiences
A tour of the ‘Schumpeter Laboratory for Innovation’ (Institute of Innovation and Industrial Management, Graz University of Technology) and a fireside chat with the Vice-Rector for Research and future Rector of Graz University of Technology, Horst Bischof, offered further opportunities to exchange information and experiences. In addition, various team-building elements at the very beginning strengthened the participants' basis for cooperation and consolidated their summer school team spirit during the week.
Desire for a repeat of the project management topic
After an intensive and exciting week, 16 very satisfied participants were finally able to receive their certificates. In their feedback, the participants confirmed the usefulness of the acquired content for their professional careers and the success of the Summer School: ‘Please keep project management. It's important for PhDs/future academics to know something about it. Summer School is a great opportunity!’ The very positive feedback from the participants emphasises the importance of the topic of project management and the need to continue the cooperation project in the coming years.
